PADI Open Water Course FAQ's
You need to have the Advanced Open Water qualification as well as be a competent and confident scuba diver. You also need to have the right people skills to help people who are encountering difficulties. Physical fitness is important in all levels of scuba diving but becomes increasingly more important when your training takes you to Rescue Diver level and beyond.
You will learn techniques to rescue divers in difficulty both at the surface and underneath the water. For instance you will learn how to deal with a panicking diver and how to recover an unconscious diver from underneath the surface.
The course starts with a pool session before progressing onto two days in open water. There is also a theory element.
A key element of becoming a Rescue Diver is Emergency First Response (EFR). To become an active Rescue Diver you will need to gain the EFR qualification or an equivalent first aid qualification.
